5 Ways to Start Organizing When You're Totally Overwhelmed

Because perfection isn't real... but junk drawers definitely are.

Let's be honest - sometimes the clutter is more emotional than physical. You look at the room, the boxes, the toys, the paper piles... and suddenly you're stress-strolling or walking away. Been there, So let's start small, smart, and with zero shame.

Here are 5 real-life ways to start organizing when you just can't:

  1. Pick One Spot, Not One Room

Forget "clean the kitchen" That's too big. Try:

    - Just the silverware drawer

    - Just the left side of your desk

    - Just your purse or diaper bag.

One tiny win builds momentum.

  1. Set a Timer for 15 Minutes

You can do anything for 15 Minutes. Turn on music, set a timer, and just start. When the timer dings, you get to stop... or keep going if you're on a roll. Either way, you win.

  1. Make a "Clutter Island"

This is my trick: grab a laundry basket and toss in anything that doesn't belong in the space you're working on. Now you can organize the space without distractions. Deal with the basket later.

  1. Don't Start with Memories

Avoid emotional landmines like baby clothes, love letters, or your ex's hoodie. Start with stuff you are not attached to - like expired coupons, tangled cords, or mystery Tupperware lids.

  1. Ask: "Would Future Me Be Happy to Find This?"

If it's broken, chaotic, or buried in guilt - future you doesn't want it. Keep what makes life easier or brighter. The rest can go.

Final Thought:

You don't need matching bins, a label maker, or an Instagram-worthy pantry to start. You just need a little time, a little grace, and maybe a snack.

Welcome to Organized(ish) - you're doing great already
